I also think its kind of petty to take a risk and not have it reach the heights that you wanted and then go and act like you didn't make any mistakes and the fans should do more to make the project a success for you.

I wanted this project to succeed to the highest points because I love the Majikoi series having read the fan translations and bought the JAST version in all forms. I think that the fact that they sold fine should be taken as a major success seeing as the mountain they had to climb with the trouble they made themselves by one willingly releasing an inferior product to an already released fan translation that had everything in it and nothing taken out and two announcing it and getting people hyped about it and then letting it sit on the back burner knowing there is said fan translation that people would go to since you are taking long on the project and not saying a single word about it. But at the end of the day if you enjoy a release you probably should pay for it.Īlso IIRC, you can hide games on steam now. Now this isn't to say that we should accept low quality releases, the steam version of Cross Channel is machine translated garbage and I definitely wouldn't pay for it, yet alone read it. It's hard to shake the feeling that some people are just really intent on looking for issues that'd 'justify' pirating a VN that they're going to sink 80+ hours into and love every moment of.

One thread in particular had a guy doubling down about his decision to pirate it because "I want to play it since it looks good!", but still was adamant that it didn't deserve his money even though a free practically official patch would put the H scenes back in.
When Baldrs Sky came out you had people saying they refused to buy it because the H scenes were cut, even though there was a patch obviously made by the localisation team to put all the H scenes back into the VN, on the same day that the damn thing came out! The lack of promotion for VNs in general is not surprising since it's not really going to get Nekopara levels of fame and the weeb community won't be interested in the source material for an anime that aired a decade ago.Īt least there is the selling point that as a JAST release, it can lead to an unmosaiced release but now that the community is used to mosaiced releases or just don't care (general opinions about unmosaiced assets being bad notwithstanding), it's much less of a selling point. The convention situation was unfortunate and the kickstarter would've also been an opportunity to create more variety of merchandise other than the physical copy but would've brought a slew of additional difficulties if you look at the success rate of delivery for funded VN kickstarters.
This potentially lowers the value of the physical edition as well since you don't "have it all in one place". Voice acting cuts necessitating a patch for the definitive complete edition.
